A few reasons why I might not be able to help you

If you’ve been reading my emails last week (or this week, depending on what day the week starts for you), you’ve noticed that:

  1. I’m back to sending emails every day, and
  2. That I’m offering spots on a first-come-first served basis to my high-end coaching program.

And one of the things that I’ve said…

…both in the emails and in the page where you can schedule a call with me to enroll

(this one, BTW: https://securityleadershipcoaching.com)

…is that I wasn’t sure I would be able to help you improve yourself or your security program.

And I meant it.

I can’t help everybody.

So I thought I’d spend a few words today talking about why.

As you might know, in 2015, my family and I temporarily relocated to Brazil from Cape Town due to a bunch of things I won’t go into here. But let’s just say that what was going on in the background was a little like falling off a cliff—without a safety harness, parachute or even one of those tiny little cartoon umbrellas.

Before May of 2015, I was actually on a regular exercise routine. I had a personal trainer, and I reliably went 3 times a week to the gym. I wasn’t in superhero shape, mind you, but I was doing ok.

But, except for a few isolated occasions between May 2015 and March 2019, I didn’t step foot in a gym, nor did I do any kind of focused exercise.

And I got kinda fat.

So fat in fact that my mother would make comments like, “Boy, I can’t get used to seeing you with a gut on you. You were always so thin!”

And I also started having a hard time keeping up with my two youngest. Now at nearly 5 and recently 2, they’re balls of energy they love to expend in a million ways—and of course, they always ask me to participate.

So finally, the first week of March 2019 (after returning to Cape Town in 2016), I once again stepped into the gym. And now…3 months later, I’m running almost 5k three times a week and doing some basic weight training.

And my little ones are quickly learning that they can’t always outrun Papa anymore…

Now, this time, I’m doing my gym visits without a personal trainer for a variety of reasons, but here’s the thing:

If you’d given me access – for FREE – to a celebrity personal trainer who worked with Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth…or even Linda Carter…between May 2015 and March 2019…

…it wouldn’t have made the SLIGHTEST bit of difference to me.

Why?

Because I wasn’t ready.

I had too much going on, both personally and professionally, and it just would’ve been a waste of my time and theirs.

Of course, the root reason was that getting back in shape wasn’t a priority.

It wasn’t about “I didn’t have time…”

It wasn’t about “I didn’t have money (or budget)…”

It was about making a conscious decision about what I believed I needed to focus on most for a period of time.

And that decision was all about focusing on Archistry and my family.

Now, you might make that kind of decision because you’re overwhelmed…like trying to run the security program for a large organization with a skeleton crew…

…or because you’ve just been hit with a major incident or a breach, and you’re still – days, weeks or even months afterwards – trying to make sure you understand the extent of the impact and eradicate all traces of the perpetrators from your world…

…or because you’ve just taken over your position from someone else, and you’re out to make your mark – on your own – to get your house in order YOUR WAY and justify why you were the right person for the job.

Let’s face it: there might be a lot of reasons.

But it also might NOT be a conscious decision. It might just be what’s happening because you’re reacting to the events around you.

It happens.

It happens to all of us, actually.

But whether it’s a decision consciously or unconsciously made, the outcome is the same.

And that’s why I say I’m not sure if I can help you. I’m really not.

Even if you’re a CISO of a global organization…

…or you’re a security architect trying to bring more structure and rigor to your work…

…or you’re a security manager of an operations or SOC team who wants to spend more time being proactive than reactive.

You see, I’ve helped a lot of those kinds of people before. But the difference is: they were ready.

Because when you’re ready:

You make the time.

You find the budget.

And you’re committed to making some kind of tangible improvement—no matter what.

But you might not be ready.

And if you AREN’T ready, something like the Effective Security Leadership Program is a REALLY BAD IDEA.

Because it’ll waste your time and money.

And it’ll actually increase, not reduce, your stress levels.

And at the end, it just won’t help.

…which is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what I want to do.

It’s also why I want to talk to anyone who has any interest in the program at all. It’s to see whether they’re really ready to make the kinds of changes they say they want to make.

The good news is that the call only takes as much – or as little – time as you want.

And right now, if you are ready, and you’re a good fit for the program, you can save 40% off the  normal price of the new format—but only until 11:59pm US/Eastern on the 5th of July.

So if you know you’re ready…

…or you think you could be ready…

…then click on over to https://securityleadershipcoaching.com and book a call with me.

But if you’re not ready, hey…that’s ok too.

I’ve been there.

Happy Sunday,
